Frecuencia de la hipercementosis en pacientes odontológicos del Centro Radiológico Scannova

ABSTRACT: Hypercementosis or cementum hyperplasia is an alteration of the secondary cementum at the level of the root portion, increasing the thickness of the tissue in the whole root or its different thirds at the same time this entity can affect one or several dental pieces. The fundamental objective of the research work was to determine the frequency of hypercementosis in young adult patients over 20 years of age attending the Scannova radiological center with panoramic radiographs taken between the years 2020 and 2022. An analysis of the shape of the radicular portion of 309 radiographs was carried out with the participation of 3 specialist observers to obtain an objective diagnosis of the pathology; the data obtained were analyzed through the statistical program SPSS version 27. The results showed that 4.9% (15 radiographs) of the study population presented Hypercementosis, of which 6. Regarding the age range, there was a frequency of 73.3% representing 11 patients between 20 and 40 years of age and finally to the location and dental organ most frequently presenting the alteration, the mandibular premolars were found with 36% (7 dental pieces), of which 4 were second premolars and 3 were first premolars. An evaluation by thirds was carried out, where it was determined that the most frequent third located with hypercementosis was the apical third with 53.3%.
