Sumario:Endodontic over instrumentation can have adverse effects on adjacent tissues, including the root cementum, periodontal ligament, and alveolar bone. This iatrogenic condition arises due to the pressure and friction of endodontic instruments, damaging cells and tissue fibers, leading to the release of inflammatory substances and bacteria, resulting in infection of surrounding tissues. The research focuses on reviewing clinical and experimental studies exploring the relationship between endodontic over instrumentation and the long-term survival of root canal treatments. The qualitative methodology employed analyzed 80 articles, selecting 50, and highlighted contributing factors such as the lack of professional skill and anatomical variability of the root canal. This over instrumentation can weaken dental structure and affect attachment to the alveolar bone, potentially causing dental mobility. Invasion into the alveolar bone releases toxic substances and bacteria, inflaming the periodontal tissue. Prevention involves proper sealing after correcting the issue and using advanced technology in endodontic instruments. The use of new and well-maintained endodontic materials is also crucial in eliminating this iatrogenic condition.
