Crynodeb:Spondyloarthropathies are defined as inflammatory, systemic, and chronic diseases that are characterized by affecting the axial skeleton and large joints. Clinically, they present with articular and extra-articular involvement. These affect the perception of health-related quality of life and the functional capacity of patients. The objective of this research was to conduct a literature review to obtain updated information on the quality of life and functional capacity of patients diagnosed with ankylosing spondylitis. For this, a basic, documentary, descriptive, and transversal research was carried out, consisting of a non-systematic bibliographic review of documents published in the last ten years. The universe consisted of a total of 85 documents; Of them, 44 were part of the study sample. The information was collected in regional (Latindex, Lilacs, Scielo and Redalyc) and high-impact databases (Scopus, Medline, PubMed and Ice Web of Sciencie). Boolean operators and health descriptors were used to optimize the search for information. The main results include the description of the clinical, epidemiological, diagnostic, and therapeutic characteristics of ankylosing spondylitis; of the general elements related to the behavior of functional capacity and the perception of health-related quality of life and of the clinimetric instruments and their frequency of use to monitor functional capacity and perception of health-related quality of life in patients with a confirmed diagnosis of the disease.
