| Riassunto: | This research explores the “Yumbo Trail” in the parish of San Miguel de Nono, located in the northwestern region of Quito, through a combination of landscape archaeology and ethnoarchaeology approaches. The main objective was to characterize these historically used routes and their evolving functions over time. The methodology included bibliographic analysis and fieldwork, incorporating cartographic representations using GIS tools to identify evidence of the pre-Hispanic Yumbo people. In addition, interviews were conducted with local residents who have walked these paths, aiming to understand current sociocultural dynamics from an ethnoarchaeological perspective. The findings identified the location of the culuncos—or Yumbo trails—within the parish and their orientation toward other settlements of what is referred to as the “Yumbo Country” or “Yumbo Nation.” These routes demonstrated a strategic connection between the Coast and the Highlands, functioning as enduring transit corridors across time. The interviews also revealed the continued use and cultural memory of these trails as “persistent places” within the contemporary landscape |
