Description
Résumé:Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease whose inflammatory process causes complications in different organs and organ systems. One of these complications is the decrease in bone mineral density. The aim of this research was to perform a literature review to gain updated information related to the affectation of bone mineral density in patients diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis. For this purpose was carry out a basic, documentary, descriptive and transversal research, consisting of a non- systematic bibliographic review of documents published in the last 5 years. The universe was made up of a total of 75 documents; of these, 24 formed part of the study sample. The information was collected in regional databases (Latindex, Lilacs, Scielo and Redalyc) and high impact databases (Scopus, Medline, PubMed and Ice Web of Sciencie). Boolean operators and health descriptors were used to optimize the information search. The main results include the description of the epidemiological, etiological, clinical, diagnostic and therapeutic elements of rheumatoid arthritis; the identification of the possible factors affecting bone mineral density in patients with a validated diagnosis of the disease and the correlation between the elements of the etiopathogenic mechanism of rheumatoid arthritis with the factors affecting bone mineral density. We conclude that rheumatoid arthritis brings together different elements that affect the bone mineral density of patients, these are related to the disease, its treatment and healthy habits and lifestyles.
