Sumario:Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease is the main cause of liver disease in developed countries, spreading progressively in Asian countries and in South America. It is affected as the main pathology causing liver failure, hepatocellular carcinoma and orthotopic liver transplantation. Its pathogenesis is complex and multifactorial. More and more evidence is claiming that it is a multisystemic disease, which affects extrahepatic organs, the risk of suffering, type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and chronic kidney disease. New concepts are constantly emerging in the literature, promising new diagnostic and therapeutic tools, however, in Ecuador, there are no guidelines to determine the diagnostic and therapeutic behavior to follow in this pathology. This bibliographic revision project has as a study population, scientific documents indexed in databases such as PubMed, Google Scholar, SciELO and Journals Books, published between 2015 and 2019. By means of selection and data extraction criteria, information is collected scientific, which will modify the diagnostic and therapeutic behavior to be followed in this disease.
