The technique used was the observation with its instrument the medical records, as well as the test and the survey with its instrument the questionnaire. The results indicated that there was a statistically significant correlation between the level of biofilm and the level of caries of the students (p = 0.038); likewise, a statistically significant association was determined between the degree of education of the father with the level of caries of the child (p = 0.016). Finally, no statistically significant relationship was found between the level of knowledge of teachers and students, both with the level of caries, and with the biofilm index. It was concluded that the educational community showed an inadequate level of knowledge about oral health issues, and it was also determined that the level of caries in this sector of the city of Riobamba was defined as a medium including a poor oral hygiene. |

La presente investigación es de tipo descriptivo y de corte transversal. La población de estudio estuvo conformada por 100 estudiantes con su representante y un total de cuatromaestros. La técnica utilizada fue la observación con su instrumento las historias clínicas,adicionalmente el test y la encuesta con su instrumento, el cuestionario. Los resultados indicaron que hay una correlación estadísticamente significativa entre el nivel de placa y el nivel de caries de los estudiantes(p =0,038), así mismo se determinó una asociación estadísticamente significativa entre el grado de escolaridad del padre con el nivel de caries del niño(p=0,016).Finalmente, no se encontró relación estadísticamente significativa entre el nivel de conocimiento de maestros y el de estudiantes, tanto con el nivel de caries, como con el índice de placa dental.
