Description
Summary:One of the stages of the life cycle is the adult age characterized by significant loss of functions: intellectual, physical and social, not in vain is the time when unemployment is performed and benefits are received as pensions, retirement, among other alternatives of social security. Within the characteristics of this population is the loss of balance when walking or exercising, facilitating the presence of falls, manifesting in a high frequency and as a consequence high risk of secondary injuries causes of disability, institutionalization and even death in people According to this reality, the present investigation was aimed at promoting the effectiveness of the application of the Propioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (FNP) technique to reduce the fall syndrome in the elderly. The technique is based on a method designed to promote or accelerate the response of the neuromuscular mechanism through the stimulation of the proprioceptors taking advantage of the natural reflexes. For this purpose, a qualitative research was proposed from a methodological point of view through the documentary review of related scientific articles. With the theme for the period 2009 to 2019, 250 articles were extracted, of which 38 formed the analysis sample since the rest were discarded for not complying with the criterion of relevance. The results of the review showed that Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation is an alternative training, thanks to the positive benefits shown in the area of prevention and rehabilitation so it was concluded that it is an effective technique in the approach of the elderly population acting as a prevention mechanism against falls.
