| Gaia: | The objective of this research work was to determine the antibacterial activity of the ethanolic extracts of branches, leaves and flowers of the plant species known in the local vocabulary as Tarqui (Hedyosmun sp) belonging to the genus Hedyosmun of the family Chloranthaceae, against bacterial strains of ATCC origin (American Type Culture Collection), Gram negative Pseudomonas aeruginosa 27853, Escherichia coli 25922 and Klebsiella pneumoniae 700603 and Gram positive bacteria Staphylococcus aureus 25923 and Enterococcus faecalis 29212 of interest for public health according to the World Health Organization. Health (WHO). This research was field, with a quasi-experimental and descriptive design. The ethanolic extracts of Hedyosmun sp was obtained through the process of maceration with ethanol, to later subject the solvent to rotary evaporation, which consists of lowering the pressure to lower the boiling point and separate the solvents, by using a broken steam. The microbiological study was carried out using the Kirby Bauer method or disk diffusion. The samples used were the ethanolic extracts of branches, leaves and flowers of the plant species of Hedyosmun sp. Showing antibacterial activity against three of the five bacterial strains used for the study. The ethanolic extract of the Hedyosmun branches showed a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) of 12,500 ppm, 25,000 ppm and 50,000 ppm compared to E. coli, P. aeruginosa and S. aureus respectively. On the other hand, the ethanolic extracts of the leaves of Hedysmun sp also showed antibacterial activity against E. coli, P. aeruginosa and S. aureus, with MIC 25 000ppm, 12 500ppm and 50,000ppm respectively and the ethanolic extracts of the flowers showed a MIC of 12 500ppm, for the E coli strain, 12 500ppm in P. aeruginosa and 50 000ppm S. aureus. It is concluded that the extracts used showed a good antibacterial activity in the dilutions of higher concentration, evidencing good halos of inhibition. It should be noted that none of the extracts showed antibacterial activity against the bacterial strains Klebsiella pneumoniae and Enterococcus faecalis. |
