| Tóm tắt: | ABSTRACT: The main objective of this research study was to examine how economic growth, as measured by GDP per capita, affects carbon dioxide (CO_2) emissions in the 38 member countries of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). The objective of this research is to verify the Environmental Kuznets Curve (ECC) hypothesis. Data were collected from the World Bank and the IEA over the period from 1995 to 2018 and two econometric models were developed, starting from the conventional ECC hypothesis and extending to an extended version of the ECC. The results show that, in OECD countries, the ECC hypothesis is confirmed, implying that there is an income level at which CO2 emissions tend to decrease. Furthermore, by applying new variables to the equation such as population growth, exports, and imports, it was found that as exports increase, CO2 emissions decrease, possibly due to stricter environmental regulations that encourage producers to innovate and improve their economic and ecological efficiency. On the other hand, a cointegration study found that the time series in the panel are not related in the long run and there are no significant cointegration relationships between them. |
