Özet:Preterm birth is one of the most significant challenges for modern obstetrics since it causes 85% of neonatal deaths. Ecuador is among the 11 countries with the lowest rates of premature births globally, with 5.1%. But, the first cause of infant mortality in the country. Several reasons have been described that lead to threatened preterm labor. The primary purpose is to determine the prevention measures associated with the main risk factors for threatened preterm birth. Riobamba, 2019 - 2020. This research project was developed through a descriptive, retrospective, cross-sectional study. Information was collected from the database of patients admitted to Gynecology and Obstetrics from January 2019 to June 2020. There were 77 cases of threatened preterm birth, of which the most affected population were pregnant between 30 and 34 years, linked to bacterial vaginal infections in 50,6%. 8,3% received antibiotic treatment, also due to urinary infections. 59,7% of the patients had five or more prenatal controls registered. Prevention measures should be a set of actions applied from the preconception stage and throughout pregnancy, aimed at the management of endocrine-metabolic, vaginal and urinary infectious diseases and identification of risk factors that may affect the physiological course of pregnancy.
