| Gaia: | The research, titled on changes in the customs, symbols, and beliefs of the Chibuleo people in the Juan Benigno Vela parish of Ambato canton, addresses how modernization, migration, and other factors have transformed key elements of the cultural identity of this indigenous community. The general objective of this study is to analyze these changes to contribute to the knowledge and preservation of their cultural heritage. The central issue lies in the increasing loss of traditional cultural practices among the Chibuleo, influenced by globalization and the generational shift toward modern values. This situation poses the risk of erosion of their cultural identity, affecting social cohesion and the transmission of ancestral knowledge. The methodology used was based on a qualitative approach and a non-experimental design. Through semi-structured interviews and document analysis, data were collected from community members and employees of the parish GAD. The study employed descriptive and explanatory methods to interpret cultural changes and their impact on the community. Among the main results, it was documented that the Chibuleo have maintained traditional agricultural practices and ancestral festivities, albeit adapted to a modern context. Symbolic elements such as traditional clothing have evolved: young people have reduced their use, while elders still preserve them. Religion shows remarkable syncretism, combining Catholic elements with indigenous rituals. However, the oral transmission of knowledge has diminished, weakening the cultural legacy among younger generations. The conclusions highlight the resilience of the Chibuleo community in integrating changes without entirely losing their roots. However, intergenerational dynamics and migration present significant challenges. Recommendations include strengthening bilingual educational programs and implementing community workshops to promote cultural preservation, especially among the youth. |
