El uso del dispositivo electrónico como garantía de la comparecencia del imputado al proceso.

This research analyzed the use of electronic devices as a guarantee of the defendant's appearance in the Ecuadorian judicial system, with the general objective of evaluating their impact on procedural efficiency, compliance with sentences, and comprehensive reparation. Using a qualitative methodology, semi-structured interviews were conducted with defendants, family members, judges, human rights experts, and technology providers, complemented by doctrinal and regulatory reviews. The results showed that the device is effective in ensuring appearance (low evasion) and reducing prison overcrowding, allowing defendants to maintain their work and family ties. However, limitations were identified, including the lack of standardized protocols, social stigmatization, and technological gaps in rural areas. In addition, it facilitates comprehensive reparation by preserving the economic capacity of the accused, but greater inter-institutional coordination is required to supervise the enforcement of sentences. The research concludes that, despite its potential, the measure requires improvements in infrastructure, training, and the legal framework to optimize its impact on the justice system.
