Resumo:ABSTRACT: The dental clinic is an environment with a high risk of infections because of the abundance of microorganisms there, both in the air and on surfaces from the mouth cavity and respiratory tract, as well as because dental procedures are used to make aerosols. As a result, it is necessary to use an effective disinfection procedure, such as thermonebulization, which allows for the complete elimination of all microorganisms, whether they are bacteria, viruses, or other types. This study focused on comparing two antimicrobial substances (glutaraldehyde and quaternary ammonium) to see which is more effective in a short amount of time. By analyzing 20 samples, 10 of which were taken before the termonebulization with glutaraldehyde and 10 of which were taken before the termonebulization with quaternary ammonium in various dental offices in Riobamba, following various dental procedures, it was possible to determine the presence of microorganisms. This was done using transport Stuart from the CITOSWAB® brand. The solution placed in the thermonebulizer machine was composed of 160ml of distilled water, 160ml of industrial alcohol, 160ml of liquid glycerin and 90ml either of quaternary ammonium or glutaraldehyde. The thermonebulization was performed for approximately 5 minutes and after 90 minutes, 20 samples were taken in the different offices to be analyzed in the laboratory and determine their effectiveness; where it was determined that the quaternary ammonium has a confidence level of 100% since it was able to eliminate the CFU from microorganisms in its entirety while the glutaraldehyde only managed to reduce them.
