Gaia:Blood transfusions are necessary for patients with medical conditions such as anemia, coagulation disorders, and thrombocytopenia, among others. These conditions require nursing actions as a crucial safety and adequate care component. This study aimed to systematize the information published in scientific sources about nursing performance in administering blood products in adults. The researcher performed a bibliographic review of publications released between 2019 and 2023, obtaining 511 documents in information systems, networks, and scientific databases such as SciELO, PubMed, ProQuest, Redalyc, Dialnet, Medigraphic, and Redilat. After considering the inclusion and exclusion criteria, ten articles were systematized. The analysis concluded that the most administered blood products were erythrocyte concentrates and fresh frozen plasma; each of them indicated specific clinical conditions related to chronic anemia and hereditary or acquired deficiency of coagulation factors. The most frequent complications included nonhemolytic febrile reactions, allergies, and immunological causes. Virginia Henderson's needs model was used to establish the foundations of specific care in transfusion medicine, with the highest priority needs to satisfy breathing, elimination, thermoregulation, and hygiene. The nursing actions identified were assessing the parameters of respiratory frequency and depth, oxygen saturation, heart rate and blood pressure, control of intake, control of body temperature, and hygiene before, during, and after a blood transfusion.
