Summary:Introduction: The pediatric assessment triangle is a type of quick and simple triage that, through the assessment of three aspects, appearance, breathing and circulation, can serve as a predictor of the severity diseases in pediatric patients. In Ecuador, the lack of application of a first triage system in hospital emergency services is a major health problem because it can have consequences such as delays in care, unnecessary care, and possible iatrogenesis, so the present work will try to determine the knowledge about PAT, its components and implement it as the main evaluation tool in all pediatric care. Objective: The main objective of the research project is to identify how the health personnel carry out the pediatric evaluation to estimate the severity of the diseases in the emergency service of the Ecuadorian Institute of Social Security Hospital in Riobamba city during the period 2021-2022. Methodology: This research was carried out through a descriptive, prospective, cross-sectional study. Also, the information was collected through the application of surveys to treating pediatric and emergency physicians, resident physicians in the same areas, emergency nurses and rotating interns in both nursing and medicine. Results: 117 surveys were applied to health personnel and it was evidenced that 70.9% know about PAT and 29.1% do not, in addition 100% of treating physicians apply PAT, describing as the most frequent sign fever with 45.3% and more serious neurological alterations with 47.0%, also to the fact that the range of presentation of the same is mostly from 1 month to 5 years. Conclusions: This work was able to define that of 100% of the personnel surveyed, 70.9% know about PAT and 29.1% do not know about it, it was also determined that the majority, regardless of knowing about PAT or not, health personnel evaluate certain parameters such as tone, crying, skin color and respiratory sounds, with fever being the most frequent sign of presentation and neurological alterations the most serious, with the most common age of presentation being up to 5 years of age.
