總結:Infection by human immunodeficiency virus has become a global problem, even more critical in pregnant patients with this pathology since they are considered a population at risk; this research addresses the theoretical bases, epidemiology, etiopathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, prevention, and complications of this disease. Objective: This research seeks to evaluate the prevention measures and complications of vertical transmission in pregnant women of the Hospital Provincial General Docente de Riobamba in 2017- 2020. Methodology: this study is descriptive, retrospective, non-experimental, and cross- sectional. The study population was 4864 pregnant women screened for HIV, with a sample of 67 pregnant women with rapid reactive tests and their newborns; all pregnant women with suspicion and diagnosis were taken into account. Results: the total number of pregnant women seen during the 2017-2020 period, 1.3% correspond to suspected cases, and 0.26% correspond to confirmed cases, which is about ONUSIDA data that estimates a prevalence rate of 0.25%. The vertical transmission rate was 0% and there were no manifestations of complications that this pathology entails for both the mother and the newborn. Conclusion: adequate prenatal control, diagnostic tests, antiretroviral treatment as outlined for each case, and other prevention measures have proven effective since no vertical transmission case was obtained.
