| Shrnutí: | This research study was carried out with the purpose of analyzing the relationship between reading comprehension levels and academic performance in high school students from the Fernando Daquilema Educational Unit, located in the province of Chimborazo, Riobamba canton. For this, we worked under a non-experimental quantitative approach with a descriptive and correlational scope. Due to its objective, it is a basic type of research; and, due to time and place, it is transversal and field. 56 students were taken as a study sample, using the survey as a technique and the questionnaire as an instrument for collecting information. The results of the first variable, reading comprehension levels, show that at the literal level, students sometimes have difficulties recognizing both main and secondary ideas and the details of a text such as characters, time and space. Likewise, at the inferential level, it is sometimes difficult for them to identify the implicit information and draw conclusions about their reading. At the critical level they present deficiencies to assume a critical position regarding the arguments of a text and do not relate their readings with other information sources. Regarding the second variable, academic performance, it was found that a high number of students achieve the required learning with grades between 7.00-8.99, while a lower percentage dominates the required learning with grades between 9.00- 10.00, finally a minimum percentage is close to achieving the required learning with grades between 4.01 - 6.99. Meanwhile, the relationship between both variables shows a positive correlation because the correlation coefficient found by means of the Microsoft Excel computer program corresponds to a quantity of 0.029. It was possible to appreciate that reading and its good comprehension is essential for the assimilation of learning and contributes to school success. |
