| Summary: | In the present work, the media influence on crimes that cause social upheaval in criminal sentences in Ecuador was investigated, through a doctrinal, normative and case study that caused social upheaval and reached media relevance in the country's media. For this, a bibliographic documentary-type research was carried out with a qualitative approach; the sources consulted were analyzed with the historical-logical, legal doctrinal, legal analytical and case study methods, to address the study of the unit of analysis that are crimes that cause social commotion, their expression in the media and its influence on procedural speed. The result obtained is the confirmation of the hypothesis that the media of social communication influence the speed of proceedings and the prosecution of media cases that cause social upheaval, as could be seen in the cases analyzed where the administration of justice acted very quickly. from the investigation to the conviction, while in cases of common crimes, the procedural terms are generally not met, which is manifested in the existence of a considerable percentage of people deprived of liberty without a sentence. Based on this conclusion, recommendations are made aimed at respecting the principle of procedural speed both in media cases and in common crimes. |
