Περίληψη:ABSTRACT Introduction: Cesarean section is currently the most commonly employed surgical procedure worldwide, it is performed to terminate pregnancy in the presence of various maternal and fetal factors. Although cesarean section is considered a surgical procedure used to safeguard the health of the mother and fetus, complications associated with this surgery are between 12 and 15%. Objective: To identify the risk factors associated with cesarean delivery in nulliparous women in the General Hospital IESS Riobamba in the year 2020.Materials and methods: A sample of 44 pregnant women was established, among the information taken for the analysis were: age, education, prenatal controls, gestational age, body mass index (BMI), sex and maternal and perinatal factors related to cesarean delivery. For data analysis, mean, median, maximum and minimum quantitative variables, proportions and frequencies of qualitative variables were used. The Chi-square test was used as a test of association with a significance level of 95%. Results: The main risk factors associated with cesarean delivery were: high body mass index (overweight) 90.9%, presence of comorbidities 50%, macrosomic fetuses 63.6%, fetal distress 29.5% and hypertensive disorders 15.9%. Conclusions: There are several parameters that increase the risk of cesarean delivery present in our population, overweight is an important factor that should be evaluated. Key words: cesarean section, risk factors, nulliparous, complication, comorbidities.
