| Summary: | patients treated in an outpatient endocrine-pediatrics office at Carlos Andrade Marín Hospital. Period August 2018- August 2019. It is a descriptive cross-sectional study, in which the pediatric population with ages between 4-12 years who attended the consultation in that period was considered. Excluding it to patients younger than 4 or older than 12 years 11 months, and those with a diagnosis of congenital anomalies that predispose them to the development of the pathology. The prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism at the study site was 3.3%, with the male population being the most affected, with 121 cases. The most frequent reason for consultation in 38.36% of the cases were paraclinical alterations, followed by short stature with 32.32%. The diagnosis of subclinical hypothyroidism is mostly made incidentally, when high thyroid stimulating hormone values are determined with normal free T₄, in a routine control or motivated by the presence of certain clinical manifestations, such as short stature, overweight or obesity. However, this does not imply the immediate administration of treatment, so in the first case it is necessary to determine if the child is actually short or if he or she is only growing within the family white size, in the second case modifications to the patient lifestyle, finally provide periodic monitoring that involves performing new confirmatory exams. |
