description Bronchiolitis is the most common acute respiratory infection of the lower respiratory tract in children under two years of age and accounts for 18% of all pediatric hospitalizations. Although there are multiple definitions, bronchiolitis is considered as an acute episode of respiratory distress with wheezing and / or cripples, preceded by a catarrhal picture of the upper tract, and generally has a seasonal behavior. OBJECTIVES: To determine the prevalence of bronchiolitis in patients from 2 months to 2 years of age MATERIAL AND METHODS: This study is retrospective, quantitative, descriptive of cross section. The entire population of hospitalized patients with bronchiolitis hospitalized at Ambato General Hospital was investigated during the years 2016 to 2019 obtaining a universe of 70 patients RESULTS: The prevalence of bronchiolitis is present in patients younger than 2 years with a percentage of 91.4% representing 64 patients from a universe of 70 patients who were hospitalized for respiratory problems at the General Hospital of the IESS Ambato, the male sex being the one The highest prevalence has been with an approximate percentage of 52.9%, which is the same as 37 patients, within the analysis carried out the year with the highest percentage of cases registered was in 2018 with a percentage of 32.9% being a total of 23 patients, the highest percentage equivalent to the age group is between 2 to 3 months with a percentage of 31.4% that calculates a total of 22 hospitalized patients. CONCLUSIONS: Due to the study carried out, it is concluded that bronchiolitis is related to patients under two years of age with a predominance of age between 2 and 3 months, is higher in male patients, and in 2018 there were a greater number of cases at General Ambato Hospital
