Summary:ABSTRACT: Sepsis is a clinical condition characterized by organic dysfunction caused by an infection of a high level of severity. It is known that the severity of this disease can vary from a mild degree to a severe state that compromises the circulatory system; Therefore, it generates a high mortality rate. The general objective was to identify the factors associated with sepsis in adults diagnosed in the emergency service of the Carlos Andrade Marín Hospital in the period from January to December 2021. We worked under a quantitative research approach, experimental and cross-sectional design, while, the research was bibliographical - documentary, descriptive and field. We worked with a population of 292 patients by means of discretionary non-probabilistic sampling. SPSS v 23 program was used for the statistical analysis. The results show that the age of the population with the greatest affectation were older adults over 70 years of age, of female gender, mestizo ethnicity and with primary education. Diabetes mellitus is the main pathological antecedent, all presented surgical surgery and oligoanuria was the main clinical manifestation. The main complication was nosocomial pneumonia, followed by acute renal failure and infectious endocarditis. Keywords: Sepsis, factors, risk, complications, patients
