| Περίληψη: | The issue of traffic accidents in Ecuador is a significant concern that affects not only road safety but also human life and the country's economy. With a constantly expanding road network and an increase in the number of vehicles, the country faces considerable challenges in managing and preventing these traffic incidents. Despite efforts to improve road safety, traffic accidents remain one of the leading causes of death and injuries, emphasizing the urgency of implementing effective prevention measures. The discrepancy between officially reported data and perceived reality underscores the urgent need to address this information gap to ensure more effective road safety management. This situation is exacerbated by various factors, including the underestimation of traffic accident data. This phenomenon of underreporting is particularly notable in the city of Riobamba, where a significant portion of traffic accidents is not reflected in official statistics. This presents a major challenge in understanding and effectively addressing road safety in the city. In response to this situation, this research project focuses on determining the percentage of traffic accidents not recorded in Riobamba's official statistics. It aims to enhance the accuracy and comprehensiveness of records, as a clear understanding of the problem is crucial for implementing effective public policies and saving lives on the roads. Analysis of the collected data reveals that, despite an increase in the use of social media to report traffic accidents, the majority of incidents are still registered through official channels. However, the growing trend of reporting on social media indicates potential for improving the visibility of incidents not officially recorded, highlighting the importance of integrating these platforms into emergency management systems. In conclusion, this study reflects that official source registry data cover more than unofficial records found on social networks. As a result, authorities will be able to implement corrections that are more aligned with reality, based on current public policies. The research aims not only to fill information gaps but also to promote new comprehensive and collaborative approaches to the registration and documentation of traffic accidents. |
