Description
Summary:The purpose of this research was to determine the knowledge of behavior management in pediatric patients. They belong to 8th, 9th and 10th semester of the comprehensive clinic students at the dental career at the National University of Chimborazo. The study was descriptive and crosssectional. The studied population was made up of 125 students. The sample was non-probabilistic. Then, they worked with the entire study population. A validated test was applied with a reliability of Cronbach's alpha (α = 0.76). It consisted of 17 questions. According to the results obtained in the present investigation, the level of knowledge of the students was medium. It was based on the capacity of dental care. It was shown that the students are moderately trained to attend to these patients. The age group that presented with the greatest difficulty during the dental approach corresponded to the group of children from 2 to 5 years old. In terms of gender, those who were more difficult to assist were males. The technique mostly used by the students modifies the behavior of the pediatric patient. The approach in the clinic during the dental consultation was through saying, showing and doing; nonetheless, the least used techniques were the immobilization, modeling and hand-over-mouth.
