Sumari:The present research work was conducted in the Educational Unit "Camilo Gallegos Toledo" of the city of Riobamba, taking into account that Emotional Intelligence is the ability to solve problems, which are of great importance in the Academic Performance of students , therefore, the objective was to determine the relationship of Emotional Intelligence in Academic Performance in 9th grade students, men and women, the methodology used was a non-experimental, field-type, bibliographic and cross-sectional design, with a Descriptive, correlational level, the population was the students of the Educational Unit "Camilo Gallegos Toledo", the sample was not probabilistic and intentional since it was worked with 82 ninth grade students of Basic General Education, men and women, the techniques that were used were the psychometric tests and report of qualifications, the instruments were, the Test of Intelligence TMMS-24 and the scale of qualifications, with which the pertinent analysis of the results was carried out in order to reach the conclusion that the Emotional Intelligence is related to the Academic Performance of the students, since when the students present difficulties in their family environment, poor relationship with their teachers, peers, lack of regulation and emotional instability, their performance tends to decrease as they can not concentrate within the educational process.
