Özet:The problems that nature faces today are critical and are not given the necessary importance, since it is believed that the resources are inexhaustible when it really is not. From there arises the need to execute different types of protectionist policies and their respective economic valuation to generate protection about the relevance of biodiversity in individuals. In this sense, the present work is focused on estimating the economic value of the environmental services of the Polylepis forest of the Chimborazo Faunistic Production Reserve located in the San Juan parish, in which five communities are located: La Delicia, Santa Isabel, Chimborazo, Guadalupe and Chinigua. The contingent valuation method (MVC) and the travel cost method (MCV) were used, based on which 139 surveys are applied in order to evaluate the willingness to pay (DAP) (for the first method) and others. focused on national and foreign tourists to obtain individual demand, consumer surplus and their respective economic value (for the second method). The MVC uses a logistic regression to determine a (WTP) of $1.95, as well as an economic value of $271.05 monthly and $3,252.60 annually. Finally, the travel cost method applying a Poisson regression, and after obtaining the consumer surplus, the economic value is $39,843.10. In this way, it is confirmed that the economic value of the Polylepis forest by the travel cost method is higher than the contingent value method and the values obtained through both methods help to justify the conservation of the Polylepis forest.
