| Резюме: | Pterygium is a common ocular pathology frequently seen in ophthalmology consultations. It is associated with risk factors such as genetic predisposition, dry eye, environmental conditions, and, most importantly, the harmful effects of prolonged actinic exposure. The main problem lies in the lack of awareness and implementation of preventive measures, which turns this disease into a public health concern, especially in our country, where its geographical location creates climatic conditions favorable for the development of pterygium. For this reason, the present study aims to identify prevention mechanisms for pterygium caused by prolonged actinic exposure in the adult population (20–50 years). A mixed-methods approach was employed, which facilitated the organization and structuring of information collected from various scientific databases, including PubMed, Scopus, Web of Science, Scielo, Redalyc, JSTOR, Psicothema, Elsevier, Unirioja, Dialnet, ResearchGate, and Google Scholar. These sources underwent a rigorous selection process using inclusion and exclusion criteria to identify the most relevant articles. The results highlight the general population’s lack of knowledge regarding preventive measures for pterygium development, its treatment, and its effectiveness. This underscores the need to promote ocular photoprotection measures at all three levels of healthcare: primary, secondary, and tertiary. Finally, it is concluded that in vulnerable population groups, knowledge about ocular protection strategies should be reinforced to improve visual health and quality of life. |
