Shrnutí:The research was developed with a bibliographic review modality, aiming to analyze the effects of vertebral traction in patients with lumbar hernias, through the investigation of different scientific articles to determine the importance of this method in pathology. Lumbar hernias is a frequent traumatic pathology at present, having an incidence of around 23% in industrialized countries and it is estimated that in third world countries it is 40%. The application of vertebral traction is an effective method in the recovery of the patient, having as principles the force and time for a release of intervertebral pressure, modifying the pattern of pain and mobility of the patient. For the methodology of this research, 70 scientific articles were analyzed, which through the exclusion and assessment criteria of PEDro, 35 articles were chosen that had a score greater than or equal to 6 according to this scale, of which are in different languages such as English, French, Portuguese, with little updated information in Spanish; It is intended that through research the project demonstrate the effectiveness of vertebral traction in lumbar hernias. The databases in which the most important information was found were Scielo, WorlWideScience, PubMed, Refssek, Google scholar. The year that was taken into account for the collection was from 2000 onwards. After the investigation and with the respective discussion of the different authors, it is concluded that the vertebral traction method is beneficial in patients with lumbar hernias since it improves vertebral decompression and therefore improves motor function, flexibility, muscle strengthening and decreased pain, obtaining a recovery and readjustment of the patient in routine activities, work and sports.
