| Resumo: | The environmental impact of industrial activities is becoming increasingly serious; pollution problems continue to arise that damage and destroy the environment. The circular economy aims to change from a linear model to a circular one in which it reduces waste, promotes recycling and reuse, and gives more time to a product to achieve a sustainable production and consumption model. The objective of this research is to identify the behaviour of circular economy practices in SMEs in the industrial sector of the province of Chimborazo. The methodology implemented is qualitative and descriptive by the documentary analysis to collect information from scientific articles and books to determine the most important theories of circular economy and data from each SME in the chamber of industry and production of Chimborazo on environmental management, solid waste control, recycling, and reuse in the production chain. The methodology analysed 16 SMEs in the industrial sector of the province of Chimborazo and obtained as a result the practices they have implemented within their production system and through the Kruskall-test. Wallis found that the most accepted practices within SMEs are eco-design, waste, improvement, and sustainable consumption. Therefore, circular economy practices are present within the SMEs of the province of Chimborazo with a moderately high level since more than half of the study population has knowledge about circular economy and includes their practices within the production system. |
