Sammanfattning:skin, which generally occurs as a complication following a surgical procedure involving the abdominal cavity and whose treatment is a great challenge for the health team given its complexity and the multiple associated comorbidities with which the patient attends. This research project aimed to conduct a literature review to update knowledge on managing postoperative enterocutaneous fistula. For this purpose, 63 documents were identified, and 43 were finally used, which were selected according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. The sources of information were compiled in journals indexed in regional databases (Scielo, Latindex, Lilacs and Redalyc) and high-impact databases (PubMed, Medline, Scopus, Cochrane, and Ice Web of Science). The most relevant results found are identifying the risk factors most frequently related to the appearance of enterocutaneous fistulas, which are surgical site infections and deficient nutritional support; the preventive measures that focus on avoiding and treating these factors promptly and finally, the treatment whose first line in the great majority of cases will be conservative, where the aim will be to stabilize the patient, control the septic condition and correct the hydro electrolytic disorders; however, when the fistula is not resolved with conservative treatment, surgical treatment will be chosen, always individualizing the patient's condition.
