Description
Summary:The human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) affects the immune system and weakens the defense mechanisms against many infections and certain diseases. In Ecuador during the year 2022, according to data from the National Institute of Statistics and Censuses (INEC), 5,142 new cases of HIV/AIDS were reported, of which 70.9% were men and the rest women. The problems that these people face, especially in the field of nursing care, are the fear of rejection due to prejudices that can lead to hiding their condition, making it difficult to diagnose and treat them appropriately, with negative consequences for their mental and physical health. Therefore, the objective of this research is to identify the different forms of stigma and discrimination in relation to carrier patients, which will subsequently help to implement nursing actions that improve their mental health, through a documentary, descriptive literature review. and transversal in databases such as Redalyc, Scielo, Dialnet, Elsevier, Google Scholar, 322 bibliographic sources were obtained and after establishing inclusion and exclusion criteria determined for the incorporation of timely research, 88 references remained. The significant data were collected and examined in depth, allowing us to determine the different variables that lead to the appearance of these negative attitudes that are reinforced by the power imbalance in the healthcare-patient relationship and how these negative moral judgments, lack of respect or fear contagion, affect the quality of care provided and encourage the spread of the virus.
