“Inteligencia emocional y sentido de vida en el paciente geriátrico”

The present research was carried out at the Dr. Bolívar Arguello Geriatric Hospital, during the period April-October 2019. The objective was to characterize the emotional intelligence and the sense of life in the geriatric patient, with a sample of 50 medical records of which 37 are female and 13 male, the maximum age was 90 years and the minimum was 65. It had a cross-sectional, non-experimental documentary, bibliographic and descriptive level design. For the collection of data, the institution´s psychologist applied in the study group: “emotional intelligence test” in order to identify the dimensions of said variable and “logotest” to establish the levels of meaning of life. After the review of the data and tabulation of results, it was found that 56.76% pay little attention and 43.24% adequate attention, on the other hand, 32.42% should improve their clarity and 67.58% present adequate clarity, ending with the repair in which 100% should improve its repair. The levels of meaning of life correspond to 8% stable psychic health, 16% psychic stability, 2% judgment of psychic stability, 42% existential frustration and 32% noogenic neurosis, according to the results obtained a psychological intervention plan was proposed to strengthen the management of emotional intelligence and contribute to the improvement of the sense of life of the geriatric patient of the Dr. Bolívar Arguello Hospital.
