Descripción
Summary:This study examines the relevance of ancestral knowledge at the Agustín Tsamarein Chumapi Bilingual Intercultural Community Educational Unit during the 2022–2023 academic year. A qualitative approach with a non-experimental, descriptive design was employed. The sample consisted of 32 participants: 20 upper elementary and high school students, 11 teachers, and the principal. Semi-structured interviews comprising 10 questions were conducted with each group. The study aimed to explore the inclusion, appreciation, and pedagogical integration of the ancestral knowledge of the Shuar people within the educational process. Findings reveal that such knowledge is acknowledged within the educational community and plays a significant role in reinforcing students' cultural identity. Prominent forms of ancestral knowledge identified include the Shuar language, traditional medicine, indigenous agricultural practices, and communal customs. While efforts to incorporate this knowledge into the curriculum were observed, challenges remain—such as insufficient teaching materials, inadequate teacher training, and limited institutional support. Nevertheless, the study concludes that Intercultural Bilingual Education is fundamental for preserving and transmitting Shuar cultural knowledge, fostering an education that is contextualized, meaningful, and rooted in cultural identity
