Description
Summary:The paper titled "Hydrological Analysis of the Galte Jatun Loma Community, belonging to the Palmira Parish, Guamote Canton, Chimborazo Province" evaluates the hydrology of this highland area. The main objective is to analyze the hydrological component of the Galte Jatun Loma community through the study of the San Francisco Creek watershed. To achieve this, changes in vegetation cover and land use were determined through a multitemporal study of the area for the period between 2000 and 2024, in addition to geomorphological and hydraulic characterization and the calculation of water supply and demand. This was done using various databases and tools such as Google Earth Engine, ArcMap, and HEC-HMS. The project results indicate an increase in soil field capacity, reflecting improvements in infiltration and a reduction in surface runoff, despite the slight degradation of high-altitude moorland ecosystems reported. Furthermore, an increase in water availability for the community was observed, as evidenced by the flow data obtained. The conclusion emphasizes that the conservation practices adopted by the community in recent years, particularly in the high moorland areas, have had a positive impact on water resource management, promoting the recovery of its watersheds and enhancing the well-being of the community.
