| Περίληψη: | At the national level, the volume of unaccounted-for water is estimated at 48.4%, which corresponds to the loss of water that leaves the distribution networks until it reaches households for their respective consumption and billing (ARCA, 2021). One of the objectives of this research is to analyze this indicator, emphasizing the amount of water leakage in the canton of Tisaleo, determining its influence on the distribution networks, as well as its causes. A mixed qualitative and quantitative methodology is applied. The research is based on the collection of data provided by the municipality, surveys applied to system operators, technical operation and maintenance sheet and the calculation of the water balance proposed by Cabrera (1999). The technical water balance will help determine the level of unaccounted-for and leakage water in each of the networks as well as the percentage water yield of each network. As a result, the percentage of unaccounted-for water in the entire canton is 35.88%, of which 30.88% corresponds to leaks, reaching a qualification of "medium" according to the ARCA. From the inspections carried out in the field, the efficiency with which the system is working was verified in view of the report from the users of the system due to leaks in the distribution network and, finally, a proposal for improvement was made to reduce the volume of water losses and improve the performance of the networks. |
