Resumo:The research "Dietary practices related to the incidence of child malnutrition in different cultural contexts" was carried out. Malnutrition is an important public health problem that has affected children under five years of age in different regions of Latin America. It has serious consequences such as limited cognitive development, learning problems, obstacles in future labor insertion, and an economic and social impact in each country associated with health and education expenses and loss of productivity. The factors that contribute to malnutrition are diverse. Among them, cultural food practices play a crucial role since the nutritional status of the child will depend mostly on the influence of food customs and traditions. Method: The present study was developed through a literature review with the general objective of describing dietary practices related to the incidence of child malnutrition in different cultural contexts, identifying the risk factors that affect healthy practices, and detailing nursing actions aimed at improving healthy dietary practices in children under five years of age towards the prevention of child malnutrition and at the first level of care. The search was carried out in Redalyc, Scopus, Science Direct, and Google Scholar databases. Twenty-two scientific articles were selected. Results: Among the risk factors, socioeconomic and demographic aspects and lack of knowledge impact the child's health status. In addition, cultural values and beliefs are above the nutritional quality of the infant. There is a lack of knowledge about the importance of exclusive breastfeeding, initiation of complementary feeding, and implementation of adequate nutritional requirements in carbohydrates, proteins, and lipids for each child. Conclusions: The understanding and respect towards dietary beliefs and practices will facilitate the implementation of nursing actions based on updated tools and strategies carried out by the government to decrease the prevalence of child malnutrition.
