| description | ABSTRACT Ceramic veneers are very thin porcelain shells that are adhered to the tooth surface and are a minimally invasive treatment used to restore esthetics, harmony, and occlusion. This review of the literature analyzes the protocols in esthetic rehabilitation of ceramic veneers, with the aim of describing them for dental preparation, taking the definitive impression, provisionalization and cementation. It was carried out by means of a bibliographic study of scientific articles published from 2016 to 2021, extracted from databases such as: PubMed, Elsevier, Science Direct, Worldwide science and Google Scholar, through criteria of inclusion, exclusion, and to measure the quality of the studies the PICOs method was applied, the average citation count (ACC), and the impact factor index in which the article was published according to the Scimago Journal Ranking (SJR), obtaining a total of 70 articles for the systematic review. It was concluded that tooth preparation should be limited to the enamel since the clinical longevity of the veneers depends on it, a mock-up driven preparation protocol was described, a provisionalization protocol using bisacrylic resin was described and the procedures to be performed on the ceramic and tooth structure for veneer cementation were specified step by step, as well as a mention of the latest advances and modifications that exist today thanks to technological advances. RESUMEN Las carillas cerámicas son unas láminas de porcelana muy finas las cuales se adhieren a la superficie dental, es un tratamiento mínimamente invasivo empleado para recuperar la estética, la armonía y la oclusión. La presente revisión bibliográfica analiza los protocolos en rehabilitación estética de carillas de cerámica, con el objetivo de describir los mismos para la preparación dental, toma de impresión definitiva, provisionalización y cementación. Se realizó mediante un estudio bibliográfico de artículos científicos publicados desde el año 2016 al 2021, extraídos de bases de datos como: PubMed, Elsevier, Science Direct, World wide science y Google Scholar, a través de criterios de inclusión, exclusión, y para medir la calidad de los estudio se aplicó el método PICOs, el promedio de conteo de citas (ACC), y el índice de factor de impacto en cual fue publicado el artículo según el Scimago Journal Ranking (SJR), obteniendo un total del 70 artículos para la revisión sistemática. Se concluyó que la preparación dental debe estar limitada al esmalte ya que de ello depende la longevidad clínica de las carillas, se describió un protocolo de preparación impulsado por mock-up, un protocolo de provisionalización utilizando resina bisacrilica, y se especificó paso a paso los procedimientos a realizar en la cerámica y en la estructura dental para la cementación de carillas, así como una mención de los últimos avances y modificaciones que existen hoy en día gracias a los avances tecnológicos.UNACH,EcuadorUniversidad Nocional de ChimborazoEsp.
