Izvleček:The purpose of this research was to highlight the importance of contextualizing the development of environmental awareness in children who attend basic education in elementary school. The objective set and verified was to analyze the active didactic strategies used for environmental education, with an exploratory design to discover the context in the development of skills related to environmental education and active didactic strategies. Among the most relevant findings is the fact that a large percentage of students in the sixth grade have developed a strong environmental awareness, however there is still a considerable percentage who recognize that they do not use environmentally friendly practices such as waste management. However the professors are aware that care for the environment should be worked on in a crosscutting manner, but they still do not incorporate into their practice the use of varied active didactic strategies, especially those related to the ludic context. We conclude that environmental awareness should continue to be strengthened in basic education with an active pedagogy.
