Propuesta de intervención e integración de la ESPOCH con la ciudad de Riobamba

This research project addresses the issue of physical and functional, disconnect between the campus of the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo (ESPOCH) and the city of Riobamba. Based on a comprehensive analysis of the urban, social, and spatial context, a series of intervention strategies are proposed to organically integrate the campus with its surrounding urban fabric. The proposals include the removal of the perimeter fence, restructuring of the internal road network, creation of new vehicular and pedestrian circulation axes to enhance accessibility and connectivity, and an increase in the urban green space index in the area. Additionally, the implementation of complementary mixed-use facilities is proposed to strengthen the university–city relationship, culminating in the design of a large, active recreational green area that serves as an urban connector and a community gathering space. This approach aims not only for the physical transformation of the campus but also for a redefinition of its role within Riobamba’s urban dynamics.
