| Sammanfattning: | Body image and self-esteem are crucial elements in adolescents' emotional, social, and psychological development. During this stage, young individuals undergo significant physical and social changes that can influence their self-perception and affect their self-esteem. This study examines the topic of "Body Image and Self-Esteem in Adolescents" to analyze the relationship between body image and self-esteem in this population. A descriptive bibliographic methodology was employed, systematically searching relevant studies in academic databases. A total of 4,721 articles were initially identified based on predefined inclusion and exclusion criteria, resulting in a final sample of 20 articles. These studies were evaluated using the Critical Review Form- Quantitative Studies (CRF-QS). The findings indicate that multiple risk factors contribute to the development of body image issues among adolescents. Three key dimensions were identified: (1) Social factors, including peer interactions, media influence, social pressure, and socioeconomic context; (2) Individual factors, encompassing negative self-concept, psychological disorders, and physiological changes; and (3) Cultural factors, which involve beauty stereotypes, peer influence within the community, and family perceptions. Additionally, the study contextualizes the adverse effects of self-esteem levels, with the most concerning outcomes being distorted body perception, low self-esteem, and emotional challenges such as depression, anxiety, stress, and lack of motivation. The results highlight the significant negative impact of various social and psychological components on adolescents' emotional well-being. |
