| Sumari: | Peritonitis is a complication of peritoneal dialysis (PD) clinically evident by the presence of abdominal pain, dark liquid of the dialysed fluid. Objective: To establish the main causes that lead to the development of peritonitis as the main complication of PD in patients treated in the emergency area of Carlos Andrade Marín Specialties Hospital, during 2018. Material and methods: retrospective cross-sectional study descriptive in 36 patients who underwent PD from the emergency area of the Carlos Andrade Marín Specialties Hospital with an analytical-empirical method where variables such as age, sex, microorganism and time in PD were analyzed. Results: 173 patients were found in End-Stage Renal Disease (CKD), of which 20,80% underwent PD, the average age of these patients is 61 to 70 years, predominantly male, time in the dialysis program peritoneal was more significant than 1 year, corroborating that peritonitis is one of the most frequent complications in 44,44% and the most common microorganism is S. aureus with is 31.25%. Conclusions: the primary peritonitis is due to both intrinsic and extrinsic factors, among the leading causes that we could establish for its development were: advanced age with clear male relation, most usual microorganism S. aureus due to poor management, time in peritoneal dialysis having an inversely proportional relationship and comorbidities that greatly influence the change in dialysis treatment if they are not controlled correctly. |
