Sumari:This study analyzes the impact of the expansion of the physical banking network on financial inclusion in Ecuador during the period 2015-2022. Using a panel data model, the relationship between banking infrastructure (branches, ATMs and points of service) and bank account ownership is evaluated, considering provincial and gender differences. Analysis of the data shows an increase in financial inclusion, although significant gaps persist. Urban provinces led in infrastructure growth, while rural areas showed slower progress. The expansion of ATMs was more relevant than the increase in branches, facilitating access in less urbanized areas. However, regional and gender inequalities continue. The econometric estimation in which the fixed effects model was selected evidences a positive and significant effect of banking infrastructure (ATMs and branches) and digital infrastructure on financial inclusion (proportion of the population with bank accounts), so that the research hypothesis is accepted. To achieve more equitable financial inclusion, it is recommended to strengthen infrastructure in rural areas, promote financial education and combine digital channels with physical networks. These actions will help expand access to financial services and boost the country's socioeconomic development.
