| Summary: | This study analyzes the morphometric, climatic, and hydrological characterization of the Maguazo, Alao, and Cebadas River micro-watersheds located in Ecuador’s inter-Andean region to assess their response to climate change. Using specialized tools such as RClimdex and ClimPACT, extreme climate indices for the 1981–2020 period were calculated, including SDII, RX1day, RX5day, PRCPTOT, and CDD. The results reveal significant differences in hydrological dynamics among the micro-watersheds. The Maguazo watershed, with a small, elongated area, exhibits prolonged runoff times, while the Alao and Cebadas watersheds, characterized by larger areas and steep slopes, display faster hydrological responses. Consistent trends of increased intensity and frequency of extreme rainfall events, as well as annual total precipitation, were identified, reflecting the impact of climate change in the region. These findings align with previous studies and underscore the importance of integrated watershed management, continuous monitoring, and climate change adaptation policies. This research contributes to understanding regional hydrological dynamics and provides a foundation for decision-making in water resource management and planning. |
