Περίληψη:Languages and Cognitive Development in Elementary School Students. (Graduation Thesis). National University of Chimborazo. Riobamba, Ecuador. This study analyzes the relationship between language skills and cognitive development in elementary school students to enhance their communicative and cognitive abilities. The research used a mixed-methods approach, combining qualitative and quantitative tools. It employed a non-experimental, cross-sectional design, with no manipulation of variables. The study involved 60 elementary school students. Data were collected through interviews and the TALE Test. The results from the test and reading assessment indicate that none of the students performed within the expected fluency ranges for their age and grade level. In reading comprehension, most students scored below average, and only a small percentage reached an advanced level. In written expression, most students performed below average in both dictation and free writing. These findings highlight significant areas for improvement in language development among the students. Regarding cognitive development, most students showed average mathematical reasoning skills, which corresponded with their overall academic performance. The study concludes that, while students' cognitive ii development generally falls within normal ranges, their language skills—particularly in reading and writing—are below average for their age and grade (5th grade).
