Riassunto:The fungal cell wall structure is essential for maintenance of cell morphology and protects cells from adverse external environment conditions. In-depth knowledge of this structure is important to identify new targets needed for the development of antifungal compounds. The fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe is used for the study of many biological processes because it is easy to handle in the laboratory and it is not pathogenic in addition to genomic sequencing, making it ideal for microorganism morphogenesis and polarity studies. The cell wall is a very dynamic structure capable of undergoing numerous changes in the composition and / or structure, such as along the different stages of the life cycle of yeast as in response to stimuli and environmental conditions. In this review we intend to deepen the study of the cell wall of the yeast S. pombe that can form the basis for the search for new antifungal targets.
