Zusammenfassung: | ABSTRACT: This study aimed to analyze the clinical sociodemographic variables and risk factors for type two diabetes mellitus in university students. The study was a descriptive, observational, comparative, and cross-sectional study. The population was made up of students who belonged to the dental care unit of the dentistry career of the National University of Chimborazo. The data collection technique was a survey, and the instrument was a questionnaire. The results indicated that there is a statistically significant relationship between the lifestyles of the university population and the level of physical activity they perform (p = 0.022), which would indicate that the lifestyle established by each one of them will depend on the level of physical activity they practice daily, taking into account that young adults can be exposed to different unhealthy habits such as sedentary lifestyles, diets high in carbohydrates, alcohol consumption and smoking, so physical activity can be defined as a protective factor against the early onset of type II diabetes mellitus. The study determined that most of the students are in the age range of 21 to 23 years, so their age does not represent a risk factor, but the lack of physical activity together with the unhealthy lifestyles that most of the students practice is worrisome because a large number of them are overweight and obese in which women stand out. Keywords: lifestyles; physical activity; overweight; obesity; type 2 diabetes. |
