Riassunto:ABSTRACT: Introduction: Intrauterine Growth Restriction (IUGR) is the inability of the fetus to achieve optimal growth and is related to several factors, with uteroplacental function being the primary one. Objectives: The goal of the research project was to gather data regarding the management of IUGR. Material and Methods: 35 scientific publications from the years 2018 through 2023 were used, all of which were focused on the updating of knowledge on the management of pregnant women with IUGR. Results: When reviewing the information, it was found that IUGR is described as insufficient development of the fetus, and placental dysfunction is the most frequent cause. Earlyonset IUGR is more severe and is associated with hypertensive disorders; while late-onset IUGR is milder and less likely to be related to hypertensive disease. Ultrasound is essential in the diagnosis of IUGR, the most widely used method to assess fetal weight is the Hadlock formula. Proper IUGR management consists of fetal monitoring and decisions made at the time of termination of the pregnancy. The use of steroids for lung maturation, neuroprotection through the administration of magnesium sulfate, delivery care in a tertiary care center, and strict fetal monitoring are the most effective interventions for IUGR. Conclusion: It is concluded that the main cause of IUGR is placental alteration, which requires early and timely diagnosis. The objective of IUGR management is to avoid fetal death and neonatal morbidity and mortality. A specific prenatal treatment has not yet been established, management is based on fetal surveillance and determination of the delivery protocol.
