| Резюме: | Solid waste management is a crucial service for ensuring the well-being of the inhabitants of a society. Therefore, it is necessary to establish a tariff that ensures the selfsustainability and long-term viability of this service. With this objective, a study was conducted on the tariffs for solid waste management in 25 cities in Ecuador, analyzing the established values, the service coverage, the method of investment recovery, and the correlation between the base tariff and the population size of the studied cities. The study revealed that not all cities had differentiated tariffs for Residential, Commercial, Industrial, and public sectors. Additionally, three methods of investment recovery were identified: through the electricity service, the potable water service, and through self-management, with the first method being the most common in the 25 cities analyzed. Finally, analysis using the correlation coefficient (R) and the coefficient of determination (R²) showed that there is no clear direct correlation between the base tariff value and the population size in the Residential, Commercial, and Industrial sectors. However, in the public sector, the base tariff showed little variation with the population size across all analyzed ranges. It is important to note that only in the second range (500 to 800 inhabitants) of the Residential sector was a perfect correlation observed according to Evans' scale. This suggests that the tariffs for solid waste management have not been properly established to ensure the long-term sustainability of the service. |
