Description
Summary:Introduction: Chronic low back pain is a musculoskeletal disorder that significantly affects quality of life, being the leading cause of disability worldwide, with a prevalence of 80% in Ecuador. Myofascial release as a manual technique can improve pain, function, mobility and flexibility in these patients. Objective: To analyze the effects of myofascial release as a conservative treatment technique in people with chronic low back pain, and to serve as a theoretical basis for its clinical application based on evidence. Methodology: Documentary bibliographic research, descriptive level and qualitative approach. It involves the inclusion and analysis of 24 randomized experimental studies. Results: The myofascial release techniques applied in the different control groups demonstrated that, when combined with stabilization exercises and education in pain neuroscience, there is improvement in the symptomatology associated with chronic low back pain, both at the physiological and psychological levels. Conclusions: The use of myofascial release, mainly the longitudinal gliding technique in conjunction with the crossed hands technique, presented a valuable option for pain reduction. It is thought that the application of the technique in reducing pain also allows the patient to be more functional and not repeat the same pain-disability cycle.
